Location: Mexico City, Mexico
Status: Design Proposal
A proposal for a new wastewater treatment system in central México city: designed to serve the everyday needs of the local residents as well as surviving the frequent earthquakes that otherwise damage the existing water network.
A current large scale re-development of the Centro Historico, one that includes a replacement of the water network by a corporate private company is driving up the prices and availability of water to the medium sectors, thus accelerating the existing social divides in the city.
This proposal is a localised, self-sufficient wastewater treatment system. In a micro-urban scale, it is a strategy for a new distributed system, whilst in a local scale it incorporates the use of planted soil bed filtration as an effective urban wastewater treatment method.
